IEEE INDICON 2022

IEEE INDICON- 2022, the 3-day flagship conference of IEEE India Council, was held at Cochin University of Science & Technology, Cochin in the presence of an eminent group of academician’s dignitaries, delegates, leading lights of the society and various national and international establishments, from November 24 to 27, 2022. The Theme ‘Transformation of Future Through Interdisciplinary Research And Smart Technologies’ was very apt in the age where Artificial Intelligence is beginning to displace knowledge workers and certain skill-based professions. IEEE INDICON, the most prestigious IEEE conferences held annually by India Council was inaugurated on 24th November by Mr. Deepak Mathur, Director Region 10 and VP elect, MGA. Dr. K R Suresh Nair, Chair, IEEE India Council and CEO of Design Alpha delivered the Presidential Address. Sri. Snehil Kumar Singh IAS, Chief Executive Officer of the Kerala IT parks was the guest of honour. Dr. K. N Madhusoodanan, Vice Chancellor of the University. The plenary speaker of the conference was by none other than well-known academician Prof. R K Shivgaonker, Professor Emeritus IIT Bombay who spoke on the “Future of engineering education”. The Conference saw participation from all premier institutions of India and volunteer leaders and representatives of the IEEE Sections of India. INDICON 2022 had five keynote sessions which saw eminent speakers like Prof. Sanghamitra Bandyopadhyay, Dr. Sudip K. Mazumder, Prof. Shiban K Koul, Emeritus Professor, Dr. Manish Bhide, and Prof. Umesh Bellur. In the Closing Ceremony the INDICON 2023 Edition hosting was announced to be done at Hyderabad, India.

IEEE India Council Awards Night 2022

IEEE India Council, for the first-time was excited to host a scaled awards night at Kerala just after INDICON 2022 on 25th November 2022.

The mega function started with wonderful keynote addresses filled with Kerala dance performances in between. Next, the awaited award ceremony started by awarding all the winners of IEEE India Council awards 2022 moderated by Vice-Chair, Awards Committee, IEEE India Council. This was followed by partners’ talks and gala dinner to enhance networking among every participant.

Bangalore Technology Conclave - BTC 2022

Event Details:

IEEE BTC 2022 is a flagship event of IEEE Bangalore Section, organized in collaboration with its two affinity groups – Women in Engineering (WiE) and Young Professionals (YP). It is held annually as part of the Industry Relations program of the Section; where technology leaders, innovators, entrepreneurs, and thought provokers share their passion in addressing impactful problems, and vision on futuristic technologies that will/may disrupt/impact our way of working and living.

This edition of IEEE BTC was based on the theme of Metaverse with a specific focus on:

  • AR/VR/XR
  • IoT, 5G, Web 3.0
  • AI, Blockchain

Budding Innovators Competition 2022

Event Details:

  • The event was organised on 12th November 2022 under IEEE SIGHT (Special Interest Group on Humanitarian Technology).
  • The Judges for this competition were –

  • The objective of the competition was to judge and identify potential humanitarian technology ideas of students and provide them mentorship and guidance for the execution of the idea.

  • The winners of this competition were awarded by the prize money of different amounts depending on the positions.

Industrial Training at DMRC, Dwarka

Objective:

  • The IEEE WIE AG Delhi Section Committee visited DMRC, Dwarka Depot for an industrial training starting from 9:45 AM on 10th November 2022. 
  • After arriving at the venue, the IEEE WIE AG Delhi Section Committee was introduced to the instructor who then briefed them regarding the Delhi Metro and its routes.
  • Following this, the team explored the interiors and salient features of the Delhi Metro. Later, the instructor gave an elaborate explanation of the working of various metro components.
  • Thereafter, accompanied by a short tea break in the classroom, the team learnt about Rolling Stock and its types. Insights on the metro’s air conditioning system and how one can identify whether the wheel of the metro is in proper working condition were also given. 
  • The visit concluded with a Q&A session, wherein the instructor answered a few intriguing questions which were put up by the team. 
  • Lastly, as a token of remembrance, a few pictures were clicked with the WIE Delhi Section banner followed by the team expressing their gratitude to the staff at DMRC for their cooperation throughout the visit.

The main vision of this visit was to gain industry exposure and practical knowledge on how the metro operates and to see the functioning of its various parts.

NaSCoVIP -2022

Event Details:

National Seminar on Computer Vision and Image Processing that was organised at Marwadi University on 11-12 November 2022. It was the curtain raiser event for the HTC 2023 that is again going to be held at Marwadi University. The event started in the presence of Dr. Kiran Amin Sir, Dr. R. B. Jadeja, Dr. Sandeep Sancheti, Prof. Naresh Jadeja. Then the event proceeded with Dr. Sushmita Mitra session harnessing AI for healthcare which was held online. That was also included with session on Deep, Learning on Medical Informatics by Prof. Bakul Gohel on Brain Computer Interfaces for Reconstructing sensory experiences by Prof. Krishna P Miyapuram (Principal of Faculty of PG studies and Research) and Understand data and AI to help the society by Prof. Jian Chen. Second day was started with a powerful event session by Prof. Sridhar Devarajan on Efficient remedies for outlier detection with deep generative models which. The event was moved forward by session on Moving toward Design of Data Driven IoT model using Deep learning for Human Activity Recognition using by Prof. Vijay Bhaskar Semwal, AR/VR Jajal Medical Services by Dwij Mistry & Kiran Jadhav and after that it was ended with a PhD Conclave where the many participants presented their work on the research they did. It was successfully completed with the help of the student volunteers of Gujarat Section and got concluded with the great feedback from the participants.

UMANG 2K22

Event Details:

UMANG’22 was the Zonal Congress event hosted by IEEE Anantapur Zone under the association of IEEE Hyderabad student activities committee. The event was conducted at            G.Pullaiah College of Engineering and Technology, Kurnool on 5th November 2022.

The Congress started with beautiful classical dance. Prof. Syed Musthak Ahmed, Chair, IEEE Educational Activities, SAC Committee Member, Prof. J Sudarashan, RAS Cahir, IEEE Hyderabad Section, Prof. Saikumar Tara, SAC Chair, IEEE Hyderabad Section, Prof.V.Jayaprakasan , Treasurer, IEEE Hyderabad section, Sourav K, CEO, Infinos, Hyderabad, Dr C Srinivas Rao, Principal of G Pullaiah College of Engineering and Technology, Dr Pandu Ranga Rao, Special officer, G Pullaiah College of Engineering and Technology, addressed the inauguration and shared the valuable message for the young aspirants.

Sourav Karmakar, Roboticist, CEO, Infinos presented a session on “Assistive Robots for Human Robotic Interaction”, Dr.Syed Musthak Ahmed, Chair, IEEE Educational Activities, & SAC Committee member, SRU talked on “ Technical Paper and patent writing Skills”, Prof Saikumar Tara, SAC Chair, IEEE Hyderabad Section presented a talk on ” Digital Age: Effect of Digitization on Careers “, Prof.V Jayaprakasan , Treasurer, ,IEEE Hyderabad Section,gave a talk on ” Green Energy Technologies -Challenges & Opportunities” Prof. Sudharsan .J  ,Chair, Robotics and Automation Society, IEEE Hyderabad Section gave a session on ” Robotics and Automation in Industry 4.0, 5.0 & Beyond”.

At the end there was a valedictory function. Also, Felicitated the speakers with momentous and distributed certificate of appreciation to all the volunteers. The day was wrapped up with a cultural dance.

Conference on Women in Sensors - Security and Health

Event Details:

The Conference was organized at BVRIT HYDERABAD College of Engineering for Women, from 16-17 November 2022.The event was supported by IEEE BVRITH SB, IEEE SNIST SB, IEEE VNRVJIET SB, and IEEE Vardhaman SB. The event started with great sense of positivity and oneness.

The first day of conference started with Opening Ceremony by chief guest Saakshi Dhanekar Dept., of EE, IIT Jodhpur and WiSe Committee Chair addressed participants with short welcoming speech. Then, Joydeb Chattopadhyay Retd. Director, DRDO Hyderabad, delivered a session on “Applications of Wearable Sensors for Continuous health Monitoring”. Sarbani Ghosh, Dept., of Chemical Engineering, BITS Pilani, shared her view on “Electronic Structure and Morphology of n-Type Conducting Polymers for GAS Sensor”. Later, Panel Discussion on “Sensors for Everything”. Then Priyanka Sharma, Assistant Professor, Dept ., of Management Studies, MNIT talked about “Use of AI in Healthcare”.

Day -2 of the conference started by Rashmi Sahay Dept.of CSE, ICFAI University, has shared her thoughts on “Security Requirements of IoT-Enabled Smart Healthcare System”. Khairunnisa Amreen Dept., of EE, BITS Pilani, gave a session on “Point-of-Care (POC) Devices for devices for real-time health Monitoring”. Priyanka Sihag, Dept., of Management Studies, MNIT gave session on “Sensors for Women-Security and Health”. Saikumar Tara Student Activities Committee (SAC) Chairman, IEEE Hyderabad Section, had session on “Importance of Sensors Council Chapter and its initiatives at Student Branches”. Chithra Lekha, Senior Research Scientist, Virginia Tech India, shared her view on “Smart materials for flexible wearable’s”.  Finally, conference closed with valedictory function and vote of thanks.

  • At the end of the session the Keynote Speakers from different industries addressed the audience and shared knowledge and rich experience of application of sensor technology in their companies. As a result, many Keynote Sessions have been arranged in accordance with conference scope to discuss the Challenges, Opportunities and Problems of Application of sensor-based technology, in various fields and especially Women in Sensors – Security and Health.
  • The panel discussion was very informative and interactive though few of the panelists were virtually connected, the participants got too much about Internet of Things, which is a broad-reaching concept traversing virtually every market segment.

All Kerala Computer Society Student Convention (AKCSSC)

Event Details:

All Kerala Computer Society Student Convention (AKCSSC) is the flagship event of IEEE Computer Society, Kerala Chapter. This year, it was conducted on November 25, 26 and 27, 2022 at Mar Baselios Christian College of Engineering, Kuttikkanam, Peeramade. With a participation count of 220, the event was a grand success.

The event featured an Inaugural Ceremony, a Networking Session and Candlelight dinner with the performance of the college band on Day – 1, a hike to a pine forest, an AR Workshop in Unity, a Workshop on SparkAR and Chapter presentations, a Next Reality Zone in VR and AR and a DJ Night on Day – 2 and Virtualis – an AR VR idea pitching competition and an AR treasure hunt on the final day

Government Engineering College Barton Hill, Trivandrum and College of Engineering TKM from Technocrats emerged as the winners of Elever 2.0, the year – long flagship event of IEEE CSKS. In the Chapter presentations, IEEE CS SBC AJCE and IEEE CS SBC SCT received the Emerging CS SBC and Outstanding CS SBC awards respectively. IEEE EDKCON 2022

Event Details:

IEEE Electron Device Kolkata Conference 2022 (IEEE EDKCON 2022) was held in “Vedic Village, Rajarhat-Kolkata, India” during November 26-27, 2022. Organized by IEEE EDS Kolkata Chapter, EDKCON 2022 was expected to bring together researchers, educators, students from across academia, government, industry, and non-governmental organizations to discuss, share and promote current works and recent accomplishments across all aspects of Electron Devices and circuits.

The response to the conference’s call for papers was outstanding. Total 335 papers were submitted in our conference out of which 130 papers were registered for presentation, after being peer-reviewed. Total 120+ reviewers were selected to provide a broad range of expertise, to balance junior and senior members, and to represent a variety of geographical locations. The reviewers worked diligently to select papers that met the criteria of high quality and relevance to the various fields of interest. Total 9 Plenary and Keynote speakers such as Prof. (Dr.) Yogesh Chuahan, Dr. Anisul Haque, Prof. (Dr.) N.R. Mahapatra and Prof. (Dr.) Subir K Sarkar delivered their talks and 24 parallel technical sessions took place where all the papers were presented. The Chief Guest of the Conference was Prof. (Dr.) M. K. Radhakrishnan, Secretary, IEEE Electron Devices Society. More than 30+ IEEE DLs were present in the two days of the event.

Prof. (Dr.) Manash Chanda, Chair, IEEE EDS Kolkata Chapter, and Prof. (Dr.) Angsuman Sarkar, Immediate Past Chair, IEEE EDS Kolkata Chapter, were the two General Co-Chairs of the Conference, who single-handedly managed IEEE EDKCON 2022.

IEEE Technical Talk Session by Mr. Abhishek Bhattacharya

Event Details:

One day Technical Talk Session was organized by IEEE ED MSIT SBC in association with IEEE Computer Society SBC, the Department of ECE and CSE, MSIT on 4th November, 2022 at Meghnad Saha Institute of Technology, Kolkata. The Speaker of the session was Mr. Abhishek Bhattacharya, Co-founder and Head (Blockchain Tech), Bru Finance. The topic of his talk was “Blockchain Essentials and Career Opportunities”.

Prof. Subhrapratim Nath, HOD, Department of CSE, and Chapter Advisor, IEEE Computer Society SBC gave the introductory speech. The entire session was coordinated by Prof. Papiya Das, Faculty Member, Department of CSE. About 78 (22 IEEE members) participants were present during the session. The sole objective of explaining Blockchain Essentials to the students was to provide a brief idea about how blockchain has been incorporated in our day to day lives. It was an extremely important talk where the students got the opportunity to know and understand the different career opportunities and ideas. The participants were extremely happy to have Mr. Bhattacharyya as their Speaker on that day and would like to hear more from him in the future.

STEP 2022: Skillup To Empower Professional Career

Event Details:

IEEE Madras Section Young Professionals hosted their flagship event, “Step 2022- Skillup To Empower Professional Career “, on 19th November 2022, at Sri Sairam Engineering College, Chennai. The Step 2022 was an enlightening event for the attendees and focused on Opportunities within IEEE and benefits received by the members.

The event aimed to increase awareness among IEEE student members of the next steps in their careers as a part of IEEE. The attendees learnt about the key benefits they can receive if they continue to be IEEE members after graduation. A significant portion of these benefits revolves around what IEEE Young Professionals can offer to the new joiners. Moreover, various students across multiple student branches showed active participation and collaboration throughout the event. These activities benefited the attendees by increasing their knowledge about other student branches and honing their networking skills.

IEEE Student Branch Office Bearers Meeting

Event Details:

IEEE Madras Section organized the IEEE Student Branch Office Bearers Meeting. The primary objectives were informing participants about student branch funding opportunities and discussing the guidelines and reporting process for newsletters.

The meeting took place on 15 Oct 2022 (9.00 AM to 3.30 PM) at TAG Auditorium, Anna University Chennai. Dr K. Porkumaran, the Chairman of IEEE Madras Section (MAS) inaugurated the event. IEEE Madras Section Young Professionals Chair Mr. M. Arun guided the student officers on the major guidelines and process. Dr S. Radha, Treasurer of the IEEE Madras Section, shared information on funding opportunities for student branches from IEEE Madras Section and other IEEE sources. Mr. B. Ashvanth, IEEE Madras Section ExCom member, then instructed the student officers on the practical tools for increasing the reach of their student branch through steps like website hosting.

Workshop on Fiber to Fabric

Event Details:

Raja Dinkar Kelkar Museum, IEEE Pune section and Vishwkalyan Gurukul Seva foundation arranged an event on Friday, 25 Nov 2022 as a part of ‘STEM to STEAM’ initiative. The event was a demonstration and workshop regarding the entire process of how sarees, especially Paithani (a variety of saree, named after Paithan region in Maharashtra state where they are woven by hand) is woven. The primary objective was to create 75 pieces of some simple handicraft items to give to 75 schools on the occasion of the 75th Independence year. Post the demonstration by weaver Pushpatai Pokale ma’am, attendees tried to weave a flag from wool and Pokale ma’am checked individual weaving styles scientifically. As a next step the attendees shared their knowledge with school students of Sumati Balvan so that every student would understand embroideries from different regions of India.
