Volunteering Experience of Anusha V
Prior to joining IEEE. Anusha was a typical student pursuing a bachelor’s degree, and she is a person afraid to face and speak in front of an audience. After joining IEEE, it was a turning point in her life. She overcame her stage fright and had the opportunity to mentor and network with her fellow members. So, she loves to be an IEEE Volunteer.
As an IEEE Volunteer, she is proud that she organized their Student Branch’s first offline Hackathon “Hack-O-Holics 3.0” with her fellow SB Members on the occasion to celebrate IEEE Day 2022, and she was awarded with IEEE Computer Society’s Richard E. Merwin Scholarship for her volunteer activities during this spring cycle 2022. Next, she was selected as one of the Section Representatives of the IEEE India Council Newsletter Team 2022 from IEEE Madras Section.
In March 2020, she attended an IEEE Orientation session organized by her senior members in their student branch. She joined IEEE after being inspired by her seniors. They guided and mentored her at every step of her IEEE Volunteering Journey. They helped her to improve her leadership, networking, and teamwork skills. She organized various events such as workshops, webinars, and hackathons with her SB Members and also volunteered as a publicity volunteer in various IEEE events. She got an opportunity to network with fellow IEEE Members from diverse regions. With the skills and experience she has learned, she is now mentoring her juniors as they embark on their volunteer journey. Therefore, the IEEE platform gave a lot of opportunities for Anusha to explore and develop her communication, networking and team work skills.
Every IEEE Volunteering experience is her favorite story because she learned important lessons and gained experience, both of which are necessary in today’s competitive world. But more specifically, SB members all participated in “Eureka 2022,” an event organized by the IEEE Education Society, Pune Section to raise awareness of STEAM among rural and urban school students. As part of this event, their team visited a rural school in Kanchipuram District to conduct a program for Eighth standard students. “Technologies for Medical Emergencies, Healthcare, and Welfare” was the topic chosen by their team. Her favorite aspect is how enthusiastic the students are and how quickly they grasp the concepts. They are also curious about new technologies and have questions about science and technology, as well as how to choose their career.
Listening to their questions was very inspiring, and their team cleared all of their doubts, which inspired them to explore and learn new things. It was a wonderful experience to interact with the school students.
Apart from IEEE, Anusha is a community member of AWS User Group Madurai and has hosted several events. She volunteered as a social media handler for AWS Community Day India 2022. She got selected as an AWS Community Builder.
